Formations Per Year (1978–2024)

Formations by Country (Top 12)
England dominates with over 60% of all documented formations, concentrated in Wiltshire and Hampshire. The UK's chalk downlands appear to be a global epicenter — a pattern that has persisted for over 40 years.
Formations by Month
A striking seasonal pattern: over 75% of all formations appear between May and August, peaking in July. This aligns with the UK grain growing season when crops are tall enough to be flattened — but also raises questions about why the phenomenon respects agricultural calendars.
Shape Type Distribution (Top 10)
Simple circles remain the most common formation type, but complex geometric and pictogram formations have grown dramatically since the early 1990s, suggesting an evolution in either the phenomenon or the creators.

Formation complexity has increased dramatically since 1990. Pre-1990 formations averaged 2–3/10. Post-2000 formations average 6–7/10, with many reaching 9–10. This exponential trend is difficult to explain through conventional means alone.
